What is Tantouring? And how to do it.
However, if you do seem to mess it up, there are plenty of hacks to fix it up, for example, our Glow To Go is the perfect faux tan eraser for those bits that you mess up.
But when it comes to self-tanning your face, especially tantouring, this may be unsettling.
So, how do you self-tan your face so you look naturally bronzed, snatched, and glowing? The answer is, tantouring.
Tantouring is exactly what it sounds like: It’s tanning, and contouring merged into one, meaning you take your self-tanner and apply it as you normally would when contouring your face. Tantouring will instantly snatch your face, define and refine your features, resulting in a more natural bronzed, and contoured look that is perfect for no-makeup days.
Let’s get down to business and look at tantouring steps:
1. Prep your skin
It’s important to prep your skin before you self-tan, the same goes for tantouring. Prior to applying tanner to the face, remove all makeup and gently exfoliate your skin to buff away dry skin. To assist in removing makeup and giving your skin a gentle exfoliation, we recommend the GLOW YOUR OWN WAY Luxe Micro-Fibre Cleansing Pads
2. Choose your self-tanner
For contouring the face, we’d recommend the READY-SET-GLOW Ultra Dark Instant Bronze Self Tan Mousse for medium to darker skin tones, and the SUN-BELIEVABLE Golden Glow Instant Bronze Self Tanning Mousse for light skin tones.
If you’re looking for less definition, keep it on for less time; but if you’re looking for a sharper look, allow it to sit for longer.
If your skin is on the sensitive side, not to worry! All of SugarBaby’s tanning is safe for sensitive skin!
3. Choose your application Tool
There are several ways that you can apply tanner to the face.
You can use a makeup sponge, cosmetic brush, or your fingers (we prefer the first two options!)
We’d recommend pumping a dollop of your chosen tanner to a makeup sponge’s smallest side and apply to where you’d normally apply your contour, which is generally in a “number 3” pattern on each side starting from the temples, then going under the cheekbone and wrapping around under the jawline, and sides of the nose.
If you think the lines are too harsh, you can always blend them slightly with a cosmetic brush or specifically a contour brush.
4. Relax and wait!
It’s time to let the magic happen! Depending on your experience with tantouring/how dark you’d like your tantour to be, you can customise its darkness by waiting for the tan to develop in the below periods:
READY-SET-GLOW Ultra Dark Instant Bronze Self Tan Mousse
1 hour for an ultra-bronze glow, 2 hours for medium/dark or allow 3-4 hours, and for an ultra-dark colour.
SUN-BELIEVABLE Golden Glow Instant Bronze Self Tanning Mousse
1 hour for a golden glow, 2 hours for a medium colour or allow 3-4 hours for a deeper colour.
5. Made a mistake?
Practice makes perfect. If you think you’ve messed it up slightly, we recommend using GLOW TO GO Faux Tan Eraser & Skin Primer Moisture Mousse with the GLOW YOUR OWN WAY Luxe Micro-Fibre Cleansing Pads to buff away the tanner while it’s still removable.
6. Rinse and Reveal!
Once you’ve waited, it's time to rinse and reveal! We recommend using the GLOW YOUR OWN WAY Luxe Micro-Fibre Cleansing Pads with water to reveal your new tantour.
7. Take your glow to the next level
Want to go a step further for those no make up days and the ultimate glow factor? We recommend the OUT-GLOWING Natural Glow Face & Décolletage Self Tan Water. This SugarBaby favourite will Inject lust-worthy luminosity on no-makeup days and doubles as a kick-ass makeup primer. Helps neutralise uneven skin tones, hydrate dry patches & promote skin health. In short: a go-to perfecter, protector & miracle worker.
Keep in mind that tantouring your face doesn't last as long as a traditional body self-tan will. The face is always exposed and undergoes a more thorough daily cleanse than the rest of the body. Facial self-tanning can last up to 3-4 days whereas your body's self-tan can last up to 10 days.
